Keeping in view the importance of traditional valuable products in socio-economic development of rural artisans, the Himachal Pradesh Patent Information Centre (PIC), Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, technology & Environment (HIMCOSTE), Shimla has organised an awareness workshop on Geographical Indication in collaboration with Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal trade, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, GOI and Kangra Arts Promotion Society(KAPS), Dharamshala at  The Club House, HPTDC, McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala on 1^st May,2019.The workshop was  inaugurated by Sh. Sandeep Kumar, IAS,  The Deputy Commissioner Kangra at Dharamshala and Sh. Santosh Kumar, IPS, DIG Kangra was the Guest of Honour. Besides Smt. Madhu Chaudhary, Deputy Director of Tourism Kangra also attended the above workshop as Special Guest.
The workshop started with a brief introduction on Kangra Painting by Dr. Akshai Runchal, President, KAPS, discussing the history, uniqueness of Kangra Painting and Laurels of KAPS in promoting Kangra Paintings.
Dr. Madhu Chaudhary, Deputy Director, Tourism, Kangra also addressed the participants and assured to give full support from Tourism department, Kangra in order to promote Kangra Paintings and other GIs of H.P.  Sh. Santosh Patial, IPS, DIG Kangra suggested to improvise the popularising of the GIs of H.P, suggesting the hoteliers to buy the paintings and to include the GIs in the school curriculum. He also asked the local people to learn this art and to prevent it from extinction. The DC kangra discussed special strategies in order to promote Kangra Painting and other GIs in state and at national level. He also appreciated the efforts of KAPS in promoting Kangra painting by exhibiting at national and International platforms.Ms Anumita Verma, Examiner Trademarks, CGPDT, Govt. Of India discussed in detail the procedure of GI and registration of GI application. Ms Jyoti Dalal, DPIIT, Govt. Of India, was also present in the workshop.Sh. Shashi Dhar, Coordinator, HPPIC, HIMCOSTE presented on IPR and its importance on GIs.
